04.30.09
I’m thirteen, and today I went to work.
By Avery Jane
Today, April Twenty third, is the St.Vrain Valley School district’s Take Your Child to Work Day. The schedule for an average second grader on a day like today would be:
1. Sleep in until 6:30
2. Jump on mom and dads bed until they wake up
3. Eat mom’s famous chocolate chip pancakes
4. Go get ready to go to work with dad
5. Arrive at dad’s work at nine
6. Color daddy many pictures of flowers, ponies and rainbows
A Day in the Life Part 2: Print Production
04.17.09

As an intern, I am now learning the many joys of print production. I am told that the more often I partake in this tedious activity, the more I will learn to appreciate it. However part of me believes this is a flat out lie, simply fabricated to keep me compliant.
Print production, while important, is a gauntlet of physical and psychological torture. Any warm fuzzy feelings you might have left for your design are about to die a slow painful death, as it is meticulously picked apart and refined. In order to tweak a design to production perfection you must scrutinize every minor detail. Such scrutinizing leads to tired eyes, headaches, and that wonderful sick-to-your-stomach feeling (the one you get when you think about the extra costs you might incur if you don’t catch a mistake in the file).
